Inagural U Expo Successfully Reaches Hispanics
January 23, 2010 brought the inaugural U Expo event to Gwinnett Place Mall with hundreds of high school students looking into options for their futures. The idea behind the creation of the event came from Daniela Guevara, Project Manager for Lanza Group. “We wanted a way to reach out to Hispanic and Latino high school students, who are often underrepresented in the college admissions process. U Expo was a success because colleges were able to speak with both students and parents, to educate both on the importance higher education,” she explained. Several colleges from around the state of Georgia were in attendance, including one from out of state, Emmanuel College of Boston. Bilingual counselors were on hand to help reach those who prefer Spanish, and pass out information to take home. Representatives from the Hawks and Thrashers were there as well, to offer student discounted tickets. The Lanza Group would like to thank the generous sponsors for all their help, Telemundo, BB&T, Coca-Cola and Mundo Hispanico.
